Shotton by Michael Stevens

In 1979 a massive run-down at the Shotton site meant thousands of steelworkers faced the devastating prospect of impending redundancy.  The situation was compounded by a three-month national steel strike the following year.  6,500 workers who left at Christmas were never to return to work at Shotton.  Some would never work again.  Many people will remember what happened at Shotton, and this play with live folk songs from Yardarm Offa was set to capture those events, taking on added significance today as steel industry closures loom once again.
