This extremely funny play, packed with typical Stoppardian wit, ingenuity and verbal dexterity was hugely popular with cast and audience alike. The plot could hardly be described as complex, being, in the words of the author, ‘the almost mythic tale of two country mice escaping to town for a day of illicit freedom, adventure, mishap and narrow escapes…’, but the barrage of wordplay, in-jokes and excruciating puns keeps it consistently entertaining.
