Now & Then

…juxtaposing two wryly-observed and darkly comic modern classics – Dennis Potter's legendary Blue Remembered Hills and the lesser-known but equally bittersweet Bookends by Scott Perry.

Blue Remembered Hills, directed by Sarah Mather, takes place during the Second World War and tells a deceptively simple tale of seven West-Country 7-year-olds on a summer afternoon, all played by adult actors. Conflicts, power-games and betrayals come to a head when they gang up on poor abused Donald, with horrific consequences.

Bookends, directed by Lucy Edwards, takes a poignant look at the older generation. On a park bench Bill and Ron reflect on the vicissitudes of life, love, friendship and the folly of escaping from your care home and running away to wild adventures in Amsterdam...
